Varooooommmmm yummy style!

My dear friend Sara ( Sara ia a wonderful Insurance Broker..call her for all your insurance needs 818-416-7987) called earlier this week and asked if I could make her husband Shai a birthday cake! Of course, I would be thrilled! Sara told me that Shai just got a car that he loves and could I make a car cake......uh,SURE! Please keep in mind that the only car cake I made is far back on the blog as one of my 1st in cake class, a little bug cake. Sure, I can do it. Sara sent me over several photos of Shai's car from every angle and I thought, OH MY how am I going to do this??

I studied the pictures, looked at the car on line, studied other cakes I could find of the same style and decided I would just have to dig in. Nothing like practical experience. I had an ace in my pocket as my very good friend Michelle and I had a date to make cookies and she is an AMAZING GLUTEN FREE BAKER - MOMMIES out there are you listening, maybe I should say it again..Michelle is an AMAZING gluten free baker, our date just happened to be on the day I now had 2 cakes due!! (whoo-hoo!!)

What a gift to have someone else here with a really great eye to talk through this cake!! I took this giant cake out of the freezer and started cutting (much easier to carve a frozen cake).

This was a big cake to start with a full sheet~I kept cutting and carving, took a step back we looked at it, shaved off edges and molded the body until we both looked at it and said that we thought it was the right shape. Wow, one huge step done!  Next was mixing the black fondant and rolling it out. (I really want a sheeting machine...hint, hint!) When we laid the fondant over the cake and smoothed it out it was time to do the happy dance, it really looked like a car!

Details, details, details. The details make all the difference, Michelle went to work on the side view mirrors and rolling out fondant for the windows while I carved the body details into the shape and started the paint work.

I also sent over a few special chocolate lollipops to Shai from me..

Etai was so excited about the lollipops that he was taste testing right away! He is sooo adorable~ yummy boy!

I am looking forward to getting some photos from Sara at the party when Shai saw the cake. I loved making it was was really happy with the results.

I am so fortunate as this was not the only cake of the day. Stacey from Parties by Stacey (fantastic entertainer - any character you could want she can have attend your childs party call her at 818-385-0000 or http://www.partiesbystacey.com/!!!!) called Thursday evening saing OMG ^&*)Y&* my husbands birthday is tomorrow...can you make a cake!! For Stacey,  a good friend and who rescued me when I needed an Ariel costume a couple of Halloween's ago, of course (and thnakfully she did not want anything as elaborate as the car cake). Off to bake I went and here is the result..

Notice the fantastic soccer ball and football flying through the air...(that is Michelle at work!!). This was a really fun cake to make and all she told me was that he coaches soccer and loves football. Why not share the field??

I had a fantastic and fun day of cake making and I love that I have this avenue to share it with all of you. I appreciate all the feedback I have received and welcome all the comments both private and public. You keep telling me that you want to see the progression of the cakes and I am happy to share.

On Monday I will have a drawing from all of the followers for a few fun St. Patrick's Day goodies, please sign up as a follower and tell your friends!

Wishing you a yummy Saturday!

Thomas...you know the Tank Engine!

Do you have those moments when you finish a project and step back and WOW yourself? Today was one of those days for me. When I was done with this cake, I was so excited that I called my Mom to tell her what a great job I did, really!! I was so excited partially because I started it without a real plan (as I usually do) and it just came together and each time I added something more, amazingly enough I had all the tools and items I needed.

As the cake evolved, I got more and more excited. I really hope Brayden has a wonderful 2nd Birthday!

You keep telling me that you like to see the process so here it is!

Starting to take shape..

Evan told me when he looked at the pictures tonight that he liked the yellow in the flowers! Really, could I love this little man any more?

Tomorrow is a big day....more cakes to come! Stay tuned and keep coming back! ;-)

Grateful

Yesterday, as I was struggeling with a candy purple rubber ducky I realized how important this was to me. Ok, let me clarify...not specifically the purple rubber ducky but the cake and why. I am honored, grateful and humbled at the opportunity to be part of a special moment in my clients and friends lives with the cakes I make.

There are few moments as important, special, memorable or documented as child's birthday. This is watching our babies reach a new milestone and if you are like me our own milestones in that they are still in one peice, we have not lost them and most parts still work. I remember Evan's 1st birthday it was as much a celebration for him as it was for David and I!! Whoo-hoo, he was not broken, all the parts still worked and it was a full 365 days since we brought him home! We could not have been happier and 450 pictures later, well enough said.

There are many moments when good enough works and perfection can be tossed out yet I never feel that way for a childs birthday cake. I am honored to be a part of that celebration, even thought the majority of the time I am not physically there....a part of me is!

The cake I completed yesterday for my friend Jacqueline, her daughter Phoenix's 10th birthday was one of those cakes. Jacqueline said, her daughter will always remember her Purple Rubber Ducky cake and I am brought to my knees with gratitude.

Happy, Happy, Happy Birthday Phoenix!

3 layers of chocolate, chocolate chip yumminess..

Frosted. parts..

Fondant and thanks to a new tool, perfect circles.

Starting to come together.
A Purple Ducky Cake..

Thank you for allowing me to be even a small part of your special day's.
